About Us



The Grand Central District Association (GCDA) formed and gained designation as both a national and state Main Street community. GCDA has implemented a Main Street Program, and is a Florida Main Street community.

The Florida Main Street Program successfully combines historic preservation and economic development in local revitalization initiatives.

More than 1,500 communities in America have adopted the Main Street Approach which is one of the most powerful economic development tools in the nation.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS                                                     

The Grand Central District Association has a Board of Directors which consists of a group of persons vested with the management of the business and affairs of this Corporation.

If you are interested on being on the Board of Directors, please read the nominating process below:

In September prior to the November annual meeting, the Board of Directors shall appoint a Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee shall during the month of September make known to the membership the qualifications, duties and requirements for service on the GCDA Board and at the October monthly meeting present a slate of candidates from which the members may fill directorships for the coming year.  The members may either fill directorships from this slate of candidates or they may make additional nominations from the floor of the October membership meeting. 

At the annual meeting in November the Nominating Committee shall present the ballot of nominees for the Board of Directors and an election held.  The notice of the annual meeting shall contain notice of the election for board of directors.  An ample opportunity shall be given to all District area residents, businesses, organizations and corporations to become members of the corporation and, thus, participate in the election process.

Each member of the Business / Organization and the Resident classes of membership shall be entitled to cast one vote for each office position vacancy. The top vote getters shall fill the vacant seats. Selection in the case of a tie shall be by a run-off between the individuals who ended up tied and conducted at the same meeting. The results (outcome) of the election shall be recorded in the minutes.
 
Central Avenue Tomorrow Plan which provides a vision for the District was adopted by St. Petersburg City Council, December, 1999.
The Plan details the revitalization of the Grand Central District and addresses Urban Design, Transportation & Mobility, Streetscape Design, Land Use & Zoning, Architectural Design and Marketing.
The Looper is a super way to get from Grand Central District to downtown St. Petersburg. Hop aboard the light blue motorized trolleys, and enjoy a half hour ride to downtown.  You can also take a tour of St. Petersburg's top attractions, museums and hotels. There are 13 stops along the way:

 
 
The Looper downtown trolley service has been in existence for 14 years and is the most convenient way to discover downtown. The Looper's 4.8 mile route links 13 stops consisting of shopping, restaurants, museums, art galleries, The Pier, BayWalk, and downtown hotels. The one continuous, convenient trolley loop operates 10:00am - 5:00pm weekdays and 10:00am - Midnights on weekends. 
 
To provide ease of shopping for pedestrians and connect the ends of Central Avenue, The Looper now runs from The Pier to BayWalk to the west end of downtown's Grand Central District of retailers and the Grand Central Station.
